Program #4 Seeds of Solidarity With Deb Habib

Dear First Saturday Listeners,

Today's interview is an inspiring one, with Deb Habib, who with her partner Ricky Baruc is a co-founder and co-director of the Seeds of Solidarity Farm and Education Center in Orange, MA.

They met  in 1984 while working at the New Alchemy Institute on Cape Cod MA, a small international organization whose purpose was to “design human-scale, low polluting alternatives to super technology and to design and test intensive food growing methods.” Putting these ideas into practice, they decided to try to live by the ideal sand values of local sustainability as they moved to Orange, MA in 1996, an economically challenged former-manufacturing center where they were able to establish a farm on 30 acres of land and be contributing members of a rural community.

Over the last 20 years, they have maintained and grown their farm and simultaneously developed and offered educational programs for area schools and developed a flagship mentoring farming and sustainability program designed to meet the needs of local high school aged students.
